EOTC Week Camp

Thursday night this week we camped on the school field.  We started the evening with some co-operative games down on the courts.  Then we had our yummy dinner which we had prepared ourselves in our Garden to Table sessions.  The menu was made up of food from around the world - pasta from Italy, chickpea curry and samosas from India, spring rolls from Vietnam, chocolate brownie from America and many more dishes.

After dinner we had turns to go down into the gully in the darkness to do a Burma Trail!  It was so exciting and scary too!  Mrs Cook and some parents set up the course for us, which started by the school pool and ended up by the butterfly garden.  We even had to scramble up the hill through the bush - off the track!

We loved our EOTC week!

EOTC Week Day 4

On Thursday we went on an exciting journey to the Orakei Basin.
We started at school and walked to, and around the Orakei Basin. We were given certain tasks and we had to undertake different things, e.g smelling mud or hunting for animal tracks. We walked to the basin via 'The Duck Bridge' and when we got there we sat down in a shady spot. Afterward we watched the water ripple to eat and relax our minds. Because on that specific day, unlike others it was a stinking hot day. After we had some food we decided to finish up around there.

Here are some photos of our adventures.

EOTC Week Day 3

Wednesday was so fun because we did some orienteering. There were 4 maps, Map 1, Map 2, Map 3 and Map 4. There were numbered things poking from the ground. Map 1 was the easiest with only North, South East, West, Northwest...and started on the 1st stick. Map 2 started on stick 2, Map 3 started on stick 3 and so on. Map  4 had bearings like 315 degrees and 180 degrees. We were with a partner and when we finished 2 maps we got to make our own.

Then after morning tea we got to start a reflection booklet. We had to write about what we learnt in EOTC Week so far. And finally, after lunch, we got to make bivouacs in the gully in our G.T.T Groups. We got to make shelters using things we found on the ground and some string and a plastic rubbish bag. We also got some scissors to make them. Aaron, Izzy and Gretta got soaked while Gemma and grace stayed dry.

EOTC Week Day 2

At 9.30 we got on the bus and off we went to Extreme Edge; rock climbing. When we got there at 10.00 we got off the bus and headed into the monster of all climbing places, this was brilliant we were soon to get our harnesses on and then we can roam free. When we put our harnesses on, we headed off. As you can imagine there was a rampage of screaming and pushing. Gemma and I went straight to the Indiana Jones wall to have a battle of climbing as this wall has 2 carabiners. We had tied.

We got off the bus to Lagoon Leisure and everyone was excited all beacause of the 'Hydroslide'. As Room 32 got to have free time first lots of us raced to the top of the Skyscraper (hydroslide tower) to have a go. When I went down I could feel the adrenaline rush through me. The light turned green and whosh the rushing rapids picked me up and swept me through the pitch black slide. Then it was time for water safety. We got in a 'safety huddle' and snugged together. Then it was time for what I like to call the 'safety congo' a big line like thing.

Tuesday was Awesome!

EOTC Week - North Head

On Monday we went to North Head. We weren't allowed to go on the ferry because by the time we had got to the port, got on the ferry, got off the ferry, and got to the place, it would take too long. When we finally got there, we had to tramp all the way up the hill to get to the classroom on the top. There were lots of guns and cannons and underground tunnels to explore.

Here are some photos of our trip:

Sarah C Art

We have done some art based on the paintings of NZ artist Sarah C. We had to use block colours with no blends. The scene was "The Beach". At first we divided our scene into 3 parts; Foreground, Background and Horizon. We had surfboards, tents, paua shells, palm trees and deck chairs in the foreground. On the horizon we had sunsets, mountains, suns and moons. In the background we had sand, grass, sea and rocks. Here is a photo of some of our block pictures:
